Franchise stores’ success with MercuryLoyalty™ integration into point of sale prompts Global Franchise Group to roll out to nationwide portfolio

Chicago – May 16, 2013 –Marble Slab Creamery and MaggieMoo’s Ice Cream and Treatery found a way to differentiate against growing competition while increasing average transactions by more than 50 percent through MercuryLoyalty, a mobile and social based loyalty solution, integrated into the point of sale and offered through Mercury Payment Systems. Based on the success of the pilot program, the ice cream franchises’ parent company, Global Franchise Group, is recommending MercuryLoyalty implementation at all five of their quick service restaurant franchise concepts: Great American Cookies®, Marble Slab Creamery®, MaggieMoo’s®, Pretzelmaker® and Pretzel Time®.

Marble Slab, leading purveyor of super-premium, hand-mixed ice cream, and MaggieMoo’s, known for ice cream innovation, implemented MercuryLoyalty to contend with growth challenges in the ice cream and frozen dessert industry. Sales in the industry have remained flat at $25 billion annually for the past five years while competition has intensified, according to the National Dairy Board.

“We are seeing a lot more head-to-head competition with fast food giants,” said Allison Lauenstein, brand director for Marble Slab Creamery and MaggieMoo’s Ice Cream & Treatery. “Mobile marketing is a fast way to drive impulse buys like ice cream. The results from this pilot show that we are able to increase market share and drive customers back into our store by integrating mobile and social marketing programs into our existing point of sale.”

MercuryLoyalty is a POS integrated mobile and social based loyalty solution from Mercury. The innovative marketing tool makes it easy for merchants to run targeted campaigns by sending promotional offers and coupons to select customers via SMS text, email and social media.

Through the MercuryLoyalty program, customers visiting the ice cream stores could sign up at the cash register for special offers to be sent via text messages by providing their phone number at the cash register. The customers can share the offers, such as a $0.30 a scoop campaign, with their friends via Facebook and Twitter.

Within five months, more than 32,000 customers at 16 Marble Slab and MaggieMoo’s locations in five states signed up to receive special deals. More importantly, MercuryLoyalty was able to capture valuable customer feedback about the promotion that now influences day-to-day operations and inform future campaigns.

The following stores reported significant increases in sales and transactions:

Medium-volume store in Jackson, Tenn.

454 percent increase in transactions

27 percent increase in net sales

Low-volume strip center store in Hendersonville, Tenn.

678 percent increase in transactions

108 percent increase in net sales

“MercuryLoyalty provides an important service to our valued merchants so they can bring back existing customers and build revenue,” said Travis Priest, vice president of merchant marketing services at Mercury.

Clayton Arrington, owner of three franchise stores, was ecstatic with the results of MercuryLoyalty. “There is no question in my mind that the text message we sent out related to this promotion in large part drove our business,” said Arrington.

Mercury is demonstrating its valued-added services, such as MercuryLoyalty and MercuryGift for quick service restaurants at the upcoming National Restaurant Association Show 2013 this weekend in Chicago. They will be exhibiting in booth #5827.

Nick Nayfack Developing Best Practices for Mobile Payments Industry

Durango, Colo. – April 16, 2013 – Mercury Payments Systems announced today that Nick Nayfack, director of product at Mercury, accepted a seat on the Electronic Transactions Association’s (ETA) Mobile Payments Committee. In this role, Nayfack will develop best practices in mobile commerce with industry peers to enable merchants and consumers to navigate technological “ease-of-use.”

“This is a formative effort from leaders across the payments industry to decide the direction of how the global flow of mobile commerce should be developed,” said Nayfack. “We have a common problem in the mobile payment industry today – there are different merchant and consumer experiences for each mobile payment product and it’s slowing adoption because developers don’t have standards to develop to, merchants don’t have a consistent workflow to train for and consumers are confused by too many choices.”

Mercury designs and implements a “one-stop shop” experience for payment acceptance by retail and hospitality merchants by offering a multitude of new and traditional payment products, software and services all focused on small business solutions for “Main Street.” Emphasizing exemplary service, Mercury offers simplicity to businesses seeking to provide customers with the latest technology conveniences while reducing time at the terminal and capturing important customer data.

The 2013 ETA Annual Meeting & Expo will take place April 30 – May 2 in New Orleans. This industry conference is a major networking event for the payments industry and Mercury looks forward to exhibiting at the event.

“Nick is a long-standing contributor to the mobile community. He was a key player in standardizing business practices that drove the US telecom ecosystem. He is uniquely qualified to help provide this direction again for payments,” said John Berkley, senior vice president of product at Mercury. “ETA is an event we are willing to make an investment in because we want to help the industry move forward by creating a clear business value to merchants, dealers and developers.”

What’s in store for 2013? As we approach year-end, that question is top-of-mind for a lot of us. But I think the question we should be asking is what’s not in store? I’m in my tenth year at Mercury, and I’ve seen more innovation in the last 12 months than I’ve witnessed in the previous decade; both the payments and POS technology industries are on fire, with bold new ideas taking shape all the time. Evolving distribution models, new technology platforms and a steady shift of power away from vendors and into the hands of the consumers all sum up to an industry that is set to change dramatically.

Randy Clark – Senior Vice President, Marketing

Industry veterans Randy Clark and Jim Maloney tapped to help accelerate company growth and market leadership

Durango, CO – March 6, 2013 – Mercury®, a leading provider of payment processing and revenue generation solutions for businesses nationwide, has announced the addition of two new members to its leadership team: Jim Maloney, chief information security officer and Randy Clark, senior vice president of marketing. Both executives bring extensive business and domain expertise to Mercury and will help lead the company into its next phase of growth alongside CEO Matt Taylor and the rest of his management team.

With more than 20 years of experience in driving revenue growth and market presence for technology companies, Randy Clark will spearhead Mercury’s go-to-market initiatives as senior vice president of marketing. Clark joins Mercury from UC4 Software where he served as CMO and helped lead the company’s transformation into a $100M enterprise IT leader. Prior to UC4, Clark led similar transformations at Platform Computing and Symyx Technologies where he served as chief marketing officer and vice president of marketing, respectively.

Clark will help shape and execute Mercury’s plans for delivering a broad suite of payment and loyalty solutions designed to help SMBs grow and prosper in an increasingly complex and competitive environment. At Mercury, Clark will report to CEO Matt Taylor and be based in the company’s Durango headquarters.

“The opportunity for Mercury to help SMBs profitably navigate the rapidly changing payments industry is clear and I’m excited to help lead the company through its next phase of growth and market expansion,” Clark said.

Jim Maloney will drive strategic direction and development initiatives around the security of Mercury’s key information systems, products and services. Having led the creation and execution of enterprise-wide security strategies for several corporations and technology companies, he brings to Mercury nearly two decades of global experience in information management, risk management and policy-setting. In addition to directing security at Intuit, Maloney headed security practices at Barclays Bank PLC, Amazon.com, Corillian Corporation, and Boeing – he also ran his own management consulting firm, Cyber Risk Strategies, specializing in IT risk management.

“This is an exciting time for the payment industry,” said Maloney. “The convergence of new technologies, distribution models and platforms presents fantastic business opportunities — along with some key challenges. Securing information across an ever-changing landscape is paramount to ensuring retailer and consumer confidence, and Mercury has been at the forefront of meeting that challenge for years. I’m looking forward to putting my knowledge and experience to work for Mercury to continue driving their information security efforts and accelerating efforts and innovations.”

“Randy and Jim are outstanding additions to our management team,” said Matt Taylor, CEO, Mercury. “Both bring a clear passion for their respective disciplines and deep experience managing high-growth organizations to Mercury, which is invaluable to us as we extend our market leadership over the next few years. More than 3,000 channel partners and 80,000 small business organizations count on us to deliver the best payment and marketing solutions, services and support to help them succeed in this competitive environment. Investing in our information security and market leadership means we’ll be able to continue innovating and growing to support their current and future needs.”

Thank you again to all the channel partners who work with us – we look forward to blazing more trails together.”

Debuting at RetailNOW, along with the company’s new branding initiative, MercuryLoyalty marks the next in a series of steps Mercury is taking to better serve its partners and the retail market.

Durango, CO – July 27, 2012 – Mercury® today announced MercuryLoyalty™ – the industry’s first card-less loyalty solution that integrates mobile and social technology into point-of-sale (POS) systems across the country.

MercuryLoyalty was designed specifically for small- to medium-sized businesses (SMB) to increase revenue and customer retention using the latest in social and mobile technologies – helping put them on the same loyalty marketing playing field as big box retailers. Using MercuryLoyalty, SMBs can more easily attract new customers, retain existing customers, better understand buying behaviors, improve customer engagement, and measure ROI – all automatically. Additionally, the MercuryLoyalty offering creates differentiation opportunities and a new revenue stream for Mercury’s developer and reseller partners.

Available immediately through Mercury’s extensive partner network, the new MercuryLoyalty offering will also be demonstrated at the RetailNOW 2012 conference in Las Vegas, Nevada (July 28 – Aug.1) and has been extensively Beta tested by Mercury customers including Yogurtini, a fast-growing frozen-yogurt company with franchise locations nationwide.

“We strive to have our Yogurtini franchisees create individual relationships with their customers,” said Carell Grass, VP of Operations at Yogurtini. “And the MercuryLoyalty program gives us a powerful but personal approach to initiate conversations with customers that’s easy to use – for them and us. With MercuryLoyalty, we’ve been able to introduce new products, provide special offers, and better understand our customers’ behavior – all of which have helped increase loyalty and revenue.”

For merchants using MercuryLoyalty, customers simply sign in at the POS using a mobile device and are instantly credited and rewarded for their transaction. The data from the purchase is bundled with their previous shopping history – including info from any previous card-based loyalty system – and stored in memory for the life of the POS. In addition, MercuryLoyalty supports Mercury’s patent-pending, closed-loop coupon redemption process. Together, these tools provide cumulative intelligence that helps merchants reduce operating costs and support issues while creating highly customized offers to loyal customers based on past purchases and anticipated future needs.

“Building highly-engaged, profitable relationships with consumers continues to be the number one challenge for most retailers – and the companies that serve them,” said Matt Taylor, CEO, Mercury. “At Mercury, we want to help remove that barrier by offering smart, easy-to-use and affordable new solutions like MercuryLoyalty. MercuryLoyalty gives everyone in the retail value chain – from developers to resellers to merchants – a way to increase revenue and differentiate their business. We’re excited about the possibilities it represents and the opportunity we have to lead the way in integrated POS mobile and social marketing.”

MercuryLoyalty – along with the company’s new branding initiative – marks the next in a series of steps aimed at enabling Mercury to better serve its partners and the SMB market. Along with the acquisition of Sundrop, Inc. earlier this year — which led to the creation of MercuryLoyalty – the company is investing in new technologies and services in key areas including mobile and social to continue driving revenue and growth opportunities for its partners and customers.

According to Aberdeen Group’s “Next Generation Customer Loyalty” report, while only 24 percent of retail respondents used a centralized, cross-channel customer loyalty platform in 2011, an additional 62 percent plan to implement the technology in 2012 or 2013. And with mobile devices achieving greater worldwide market penetration than bank accounts, safe drinking water and electricity (source: Chetan Sharma Technology & Strategy Consulting) and m-commerce expected to reach $31 billion by 2015 (source: eMarketer), the time has never been better for a mobile-social loyalty solution.

DURANGO, CO – June 29, 2012

Ernst & Young, LLP, announced that Matt Taylor, CEO, Mercury Payment Systems, received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur Of The Year® 2012 Award in the Technology category in The Mountain Desert Region.

The award recognizes outstanding entrepreneurs who demonstrate excellence and extraordinary success in such areas as innovation, financial performance and personal commitment to their businesses and communities.

“Mercury’s novel business model of integrating payments technology to point-of-sale, channel-driven solutions lit a new path in the payment processing industry,” Taylor said. “This award recognizes the company’s success to date, and reinforces the innovative direction we have set for the future.”

Taylor took the helm of Mercury in 2009. He has led the company, known in the payment processing industry as the leader in integrated POS payments technology, through an aggressive growth period. During his tenure, the company’s merchant base has grown by close to 50%, representing 70,000 installations processing more than $25 billion in annual transaction volume.

Additionally, the company’s product portfolio has expanded beyond core processing services to include a diverse set of security-focused products, gift card, and loyalty technologies. Since Matt took the helm, revenues and earnings have doubled, and the company has earned numerous accolades from industry associations, including the Retail Solutions Providers Association Top Vendor Award consecutively in 2010 and 2011, and a Top 5 Companies to Work for in Colorado.

“I’m thrilled and honored to receive this award,” said Taylor. “It reflects and recognizes the dedication by every employee who has helped make Mercury a success. Huge congratulations to the entire Mercury family.”

Part of Taylor’s vision for Mercury is to develop a strong and diverse presence in philanthropic activities. In 2010, he led the formation of MercuryGives, an organization developed to coordinate volunteer efforts and charitable giving of Mercury’s employees. Since inception, Mercury’s employees have donated 12,000 hours to organizations in need within its own and its partners’ communities.

As a Mountain Desert award winner, Taylor is now eligible for consideration for the National Entrepreneur Of The Year 2012 Award. Award winners in several national categories, as well as the National Entrepreneur Of The Year Overall Award winner, will be announced at the annual awards gala in Palm Springs, California, on November 17, 2012. The awards are the culminating event of the Ernst & Young Strategic Growth Forum®, the nation’s most prestigious gathering of high-growth, market-leading companies.

Taylor was selected by an independent panel of judges, and the award was presented at a special gala on June 28, 2012 at the Seawell Ballroom in the Denver Center for the Performing Arts.
